Reluctant Allies: Exploring Disability and Chronic Illness

Whether you have a disability or a chronic illness, there’s no doubt about it, your life has changed. Pain management, mobility issues, emotions, social challenges, and intellectual reasoning can all be impacted by not just the onset of a disability or chronic illness, but the constant interruption of them in our lives. Moreover, the managing the health care system can become a job in itself, making it is easy to identify AS our disability or chronic illness. We can be reluctant to see how our disability or chronic illness can be an ally and a teacher.

Though disability or chronic illness impacts us physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually, we are so much more than this one aspect of ourself.

Join me as we explore the challenges and gifts this loss has brought into our lives. Through mindful meditation, writing prompts, group discussion, embodied practices, and SoulCollage®, we will discover the role our disability or chronic illness has in our lives.

Meet Your Facilitator

Colleen Haggerty

As a Soul Tender, Colleen uses her skills as a mental health coach, spiritual guide, teacher, SoulCollage® Facilitator and Trainer, speaker, and author to offer a calm refuge where people can relax into their own Soul work. She helps people release patterned ways of negative thinking and supports people through trauma, grief, and forgiveness.

Previously, Colleen worked in non-profit management for 20 years, tending to the marginalized in our society.

Colleen lost her leg when she was 17 years old. Being an amputee has been one of the greatest teachers of her life. She writes about some of those lessons in her memoir, A Leg to Stand On, An Amputee’s Walk Into Motherhood.

Colleen gave a TEDx Talk about her forgiveness journey. You can watch that here.

You can read more about her on her About page.
